SPATIAL EVALUATION OF IRRIGATIONAL WATER QUALITY IN GIS PERSPECTIVE

Abstract

Objective: The study was conducted to spatially evaluate the suitability of surface and ground water quality of Pattoki, Kasur and Piplan areas for irrigation purposes.

Material and method: A total of 40 water samples from Pattoki, 43 from Piplan and 23 from Kasur were collected. The irrigational parameters like Electrical conductivity, Sodium adsorption ratio, Residual sodium carbonate and Chloride have been worked out to know the suitability of water for irrigation purposes.

Results: Results of study shows that 42% of Piplan, 15% of Pattoki and 100% of Kasur water samples were suitable with reference to Electrical conductivity, in case of RSC all samples were suitable in Piplan and Kasur while of Pattoki 32%   were unfit for irrigation purpose. For Cl, 55% and SAR 45% of Pattoki samples were fit while in Kasur and Piplan all samples were free from any sort of contagious materials that may harm the irrigating lands and all the parameters were within the limits of FAO standards.

Conclusion: It is concluded from the study that the water is free from any sort of contagious materials that may harm the irrigating lands and all the parameters were within the limits of FAO standards.
