Automation and monitoring of poultry house utilizing wireless sensor network

Abstract


Control of the environment is the most important issue for optimize the poultry production. Currently methods used to monitoring and control of this kind of environment can’t consider the large amount of inner microenvironments of the poultry house and also require complex wired infrastructures. This article shows a solution based on wireless ZigBee network that can be applied to monitor and control lighting, temperature, humidity and other physicochemical variables in the poultry house. The developed infrastructure was tested in an experimental poultry house and resulted in a secure and high scalability system that is capable of data recording and control of the environment. There were made an analysis of the communication efficiency in the poultry house by monitoring the lost data packets. The experiments prove that the zigbee networks can be applied to the poultry production improving the control of the environment and in consequence the quality of the production and simplify the infrastructure.
