Comparison of Muscle Activities Around the Shoulders of Patients with Frozen Shoulder According to the Scapular Stabilization Exercise Method

[Purpose] The purpose of this study was to investigate the EMG activity when applying stabilization exercise. [Subjects and Methods] This study’s subjects were 30 patients diagnosed with frozen shoulder. Muscle activities in the deltoid middle fiber, upper trapezius, middle trapezius, lower trapezius, and the serratus anterior were measured before and after 14 different stabilization exercise methods. To measure the muscle activity, a surface electromyography was used.  [Results] Significant differences in the muscle activities were found after the exercises of rowing in prone, prone extension, superman T, superman Y, superman I, prone supported on elbow, quadruped position, pushup position, pushup position with hands, walk-outs from knee, and walk-outs from ankle. [Conclusion] That is, each of the stabilization exercises should be applied selectively according to the symptoms and diagnosis of each patient.
