Attitudes of the Students of Biology Towards Education for Sustainable Development

Abstract


1-The study aims to identify thestudents of biology attitudes of towards education for sustainable development. The study population is the students of biology department at the college of education, university of Al-Qadisiyah, morning study for the academic year 2017-2018. The study sample includes (250) female and male students. In order to verify the study questions, the researcher has prepared a scale of attitudes of (50) items in its final version after getting psychometric properties, and distributed on four dimensions ( economic, social, cultural and environmental dimension). The items have alternatives (strongly agree, agree, not sure, I disagree, I strongly disagree) of values (1,2,3,4 and 5) respectively for the positive items and the reverse for the negative ones. The study has reached to certain results as the existence of relatively high attitudes for the students of biology towards education for sustainable development, there are no differences of statistical significant at level (0,05) among students according to gender variable on the attitude scale, and there are differences of statistical significance at level (0,05) according to the stage variable (second- fourth) in favour for the fourth stage. The paper recommends to focus on issues related to the concepts of sustainable development and its dimensions in the educational process, holding seminars for the teaching staff to shed light on sustainable development and its relation to the educational process and includes sustainable development in the curriculum of the university.
