Levels and Predictors of Organization Citizenship Behavior among Public Hospitals’s Employees in the Northern of Jordan

Abstract


Introduction: Organizational citizenship behavior (OCB) is viewed as a significant idea in the management science. There are five domains in OCB; courtesy, conscientiousness, altruism, civic virtue, and sportsmanship. OCBs are exhibited by employees as extra efforts without perceived returns. Study objectives: The main objectives of the present study were to identify the levels and predictors of OCBs among employees in public hospitals in Irbid District, Jordan. Materials and methods: A cross sectional study was conducted to collect data from study participants. Study sample included 270 participants who were recruited from four public hospitals in Irbid, Princess Badea'a Hospital, Princess Rahma Hospital, Princess Basma Hospital, Al-Ramtha Hospital. A study instrument consisting of two parts was prepared for this study. The first part included demographical variables, while the second part consisted of paragraph related to OCBs. Results:  The levels of OCB domains were more than the intermediate. Demographic variables significantly impacted OCB with few exceptions. Conclusions: The results of the present study showed that employees in public hospitals exhibited good level of OCB. Demographic variables significantly impacted the initiation and exhibition of OCB.
